Our Team

Dr Neil Bindemann, Director, Innervate Ltd

Neil is responsible for the idea at the heart of the eQOL platform—that patients should have access to up-to-date medical information about their health conditions and spaces to discuss their treatments and experiences with other patients and health professionals.

In 2001, after completing a PhD in neuroscience, Neil founded the health and medical education business Innervate Ltd. He has gone on to build a number of other medical education companies under the Innervate umbrella, including eQOL.

In 2015, he was diagnosed with a non-malignant brain tumour which required neurosurgery. Based on research he undertook following his diagnosis he has adhered to a ketogenic diet with the aim of managing his tumour. He has since used this experience to inform his medical communications work, drawing on his experience as a patient to create resources that fill gaps in health and care service provision.

Neil has had a lifelong interest in human behaviour and quality of life and this interest continues to guide his work and the foci of his projects. He tweets about his work and lived experiences here @nbinders.

Lee Morgan, Student Dietitian, University of Plymouth

Lee has had epilepsy since the age of 16. Since then, he has experienced injuries from seizures, as well as going through depression and cognitive impairment as side-effects of anti-epileptic medications. He hopes to share his lived experience of epilepsy and help people with epilepsy to improve their quality of life with the condition.

Six years ago, he was introduced to the ketogenic diet by his neurologist and with the aid of a specialist ketogenic dietitian, he has seen improvements in his seizures, cognition, and quality of life. This has enabled him to reduce medication for his epilepsy.

He decided to become a dietitian with the aim of helping others with the condition and he is now nearing the end of his studies at Plymouth. He hopes to specialise in medical ketogenic therapies in the future; particularly in adult services, as he believes there is a severe lack of services in this area.

In recent years he has used his personal experience and dietetic knowledge to help establish a peer-to-peer epilepsy support group on Zoom, supporting adults with epilepsy and parents of children on the ketogenic diet on behalf of epilepsy charity Matthew's Friends.

He is passionate about inspiring people with epilepsy to live a better life by learning about their condition.
